Our first night on the road, just outside of Badlands National Park. We camped out on national forest land on the rim looking into Badlands National Park.
Not the body I wanted...
We're on our way! I'm only days away from starting my bike across the country (gotta get west for the start, of course). I remember well how fit I was on October 13, 2017 when I toed the line at the Ironman World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. That's the body I wanted to bring to California to start my cross country adventure.
Following IM Kona I struggled with the post Ironman blues...having achieved a goal I had worked toward for 10 years. I couldn't run for three months until my heel pain resolved...then oral surgery knocked me off my game for a couple more weeks. Besides that I had no idea how much time and energy it would take to get our church, our home and ourselves ready for this trip...so...
This is not the body I wanted to take to California (there's 25 more lbs of it now compared to when I was in Kona) -- but it is the body I have!
I am grateful for it and it is one of God's many gifts to me.
I can't wait to dip my bike tires in the Pacific to start my trek!
We went from this to this...

Getting Ready...
I was reminded again of the beauty of riding in the La Crosse area as I went for an early morning bike today.
